With two contextual meanings, Rāma is a Vedic Sanskrit word. In one sense, as mentioned by Monier Monier-Williams, as found in Atharva Veda, it means "grey, dark-colored, black" and is linked to the word ratri, which means night.
Diwali also spelled Divali. The name is derived from the Sanskrit term Deepavali, meaning “row of lights".
